Full description
Explore the history and lesser-known facts about the best-preserved monument from Ancient Rome on a 45-minute guided tour of the Pantheon. Learn how the basilica has represented the expression of the glory of Rome for over 2,000 years. Learn how the building inspired one of the great artists of the Renaissance when Raphael chose it as his place of eternal rest. Founded by Marcus Agrippa between 25 and 27 BC as a temple to the 12 gods, the building was originally part of a complex created on his property in the Campus Martius. Learn how the remains of many martyrs were removed from the Christian catacombs and placed in the Pantheon on the orders of Pope Boniface IV In 608. Marvel at the immense dome with a diameter of 43,30 meters and its famous oculus that allows natural light to illuminate the beautiful interior.

Excellent, personable and lively guide, a young woman whose name isn't coming to me now, but she was well-versed in the arts an the history of the Pantheon, and kept the group moving through the crowds. We've been to the Pantheon several times and learned things we didn't know. Highly recommended.

Absolutely worth the time (and it was brief ~45 min or so); we went in the mid-afternoon and the entrance is not well marked (was on the right, and we started waiting on the left). Once in the building, the tour was amazing - so cool to see and hear the context of the amazing structure. Also the Piazza Navona is within a 10 minute walk, same with the Trevi fountain (other direction)

The tour was nice! The guide was friendly, had a decent grasp of English (spoke with a bit of an accent), and was very knowledgeable. The tour gives insight into the building (how it was constructed, the composition), who is buried there, and the significance of the building on the rest of Rome.
