Amalfi Coast: Boat and Snorkeling Tour in Small Group

5. Amalfi Coast: Boat and Snorkeling Tour in Small Group

Board an Amalfitan Gozzo boat for a scenic ride along the Amalfi coast. Admire natural wonders, including the Natural Arch and Faraglioni Rocks. Swim and snorkel or relax on the shores of secluded beaches. Once everybody has jumped on board and had a little briefing about how you're going to spend the day, you will be ready to set off to the west towards Positano. The route will take you along Amalfi Coast’s finest beaches as well as close to natural rock arches and into sea caves, giving you the opportunity to admire the old watchtowers that dot the entire length of this coast. You will pause at beaches reachable only by sea and have time to go snorkeling or swimming in crystal-clear waters and into grottoes. Not too far from the starting point, right after leaving the center of Amalfi, you will get close to Saint Andrew's Grotto, a huge natural sea cave full of stalactites named after the patron saint of Amalfi (Andrea). Then, once passed Duoglio and Santa Croce beaches, you will stop by the "Arc of Lovers", a natural rock arch created millions of years ago by the erosion of the sea whose shape recalls two elephants in the act of kissing. Up to not too long ago young couples used to get married on the top of it. A little later you will cruise in front of the ancient fishing village of Conca dei Marini, passing near the villa of Sophia Loren and seeing the historic hotel “Il Saraceno” located on La Vite Beach. From here you will also have a stunning view of the Santa Rosa Monastery, a former convent now converted into a luxury hotel, once home of the Dominican nuns. It's right in the kitchens of this monastery that the delicious "Sfogliatella Santa Rosa" was born, a shell-shaped pastry filled with ricotta cheese-based cream and little dried fruit pieces, typical of the local culinary tradition (don't forget to taste it before leaving!). Once past the seaside of Conca dei Marini you will enter its western basin, where you will have a beautiful view of Furore and Praiano villages and the islands of Li Galli and Capri, together with the well-known Faraglioni Rocks. Further inside this basin we will find the little Runghetiello Grotto and its tiny beach, where you will anchor for a break to go swimming or snorkeling. You will reach then the famous Furore Fjord, the only natural fjord in Italy and location of the international diving competition "MarMeeting": every year in July, professional divers from around the world compete by jumping from the top of the bridge which is 28 meters high. Navigating a little farther onward to the village of Praiano you will be able to have a close look at a bigger sea cave, the Africana Grotto, where the water has a distinctive blue color thanks to the unique refraction of light. Finally you will go round Capo Sottile and continue cruising to Positano, where you will have another break for snorkeling at a beach reachable only by the sea and so not crowded at all: La Porta. The return trip to Amalfi will give you a different but equally remarkable view of both sea and land.

My teenage daughter and I had a great day! Our guide Peter, organised this trip very well. All stops were well timed so that we got the most out of this exciting day. We had sufficient time to wander around Positano and its beach, and enjoy amazing colours and views there. We were lucky with weather and traffic. In Pompeii we had an excellent local guide. She used our precious time very efficiently to show us around and tell many facts. Time on the bus passed quickly too. Thanks to our kind and professional coach driver, we had a very comfortable travel. I would highly recommend this trip.

Our tour guide Peter was great, really, he was very knowledgeable about the areas we were going through and seeing, he was very informative about subjects pertaining to the tour, he knows his history. Peter was good about prepping us to know when we would break for food, restrooms etc.. The drive was cumfy in a clean bus and didn’t seem as lengthy as it would seem on paper at all, so don’t shy away from the hours this tour runs, it was fun, didn’t seem heavy at all and there was a really good restaurant at the end of the day drop off point at 2 min walking distance.

A long but very doable day. The coach journey is broken up there and back with a stop where they sell delicious donuts! Pompeii is very interesting - our 11 year old said it was her favourite trip of our stay in Rome. Mount Vesuvius gave spectacular views. The climb is tiring though - definitely not to be taken lightly if you struggle with fitness. The day was well organised and we had fantastic guides - both with us on the coach and for Pompeii.

JB and Luigi were excellent at getting us to all the places we needed to be at and for being really friendly and helpful. Hector was a very informative guide for Pompeii ruins. Overall would recommend!

The guide Robert was so good and made our tour very interesting and well worth it
