Ljubljana is often called a European jewel or described as a small blend of Prague and Amsterdam. It is a 'town with a soul', as visitors often comment. This vibrant old town is concentrated along the Ljubljanica River, and the castle on a hill still looks like it is protecting the romantic city below. On this private tour you will stroll along medieval streets, admire an interesting blend of different architectural styles, 'see' and 'be seen' on several famous promenades along the river, discover some of the Ljubljana’s hidden monuments, relax in the city’s greenery, and hear stories and fairytales that connect the present and the past. The tour is on foot because it is much easier to get around Ljubljana’s pedestrian Old Town. Despite the fact that it is a capital city, it is easily walkable. You will see all the major sights in Ljubljana including the main square with the Prešeren monument, Franciscan Church and Three Bridges, Congress Square (Park of the Star), the National University Library, Križanke Monastery, the New Square, the Cobbler's Bridge, the Old Square (the oldest street), the romantic river promenade, the Municipality Square, St. Nicholas Cathedral, the famous Open Air Market, Butcher's Bridge, and Dragon Bridge.

Lake Bled and medieval town of Radovljica with lunch

6. Lake Bled and medieval town of Radovljica with lunch

Your excursion begins with a complimentary pick-up from your hotel or alternative meeting point  when pick-up isn't possible at the hotel. During the drive in a comfortable car/minivan your guide will share information and answer to your questions regarding Slovenia. Meanwhile, you will drive about an hour through rural Slovenia towards the Julian Alps. When you arrive in Bled, you will experience a drive around the lake, and a short stroll around Lake Bled where your guide will share his/her knowledge about this beautiful place. After the sightseeing tour of the town, you will have a chance to visit the majestic castle or enjoy a ride in a traditional wooden boat, "pletna" to the island and back, or you can simply enjoy your own time here. After a short drive to Radovljica and a sightseeing tour of the city, you will see the famous Slovenian gingerbread workshop Lectar.  'Lectarstvo' is an old and renowned traditional handicraft of Slovenia. The decorated pastry is made from honey dough and shaped either with a wooden or a tin mold, or by hand. The craft is one of the oldest practiced in cities and squares, while in the countryside lect workshops appeared in the 19th century, during its heyday. Today, honey-bread products are precious souvenirs from Slovenia. Of course, a visit to the Slovenian countryside wouldn't be complete without tasting what Slovenian cuisine has to offer. Our guide was easy going and very knowledgeable. She was well prepared for children (we had our 8 and 10 yo kids with us). The drive was comfortable and timing unhurried. Piran is a beautiful historic seaside town with a lot of interest. We also drove through neighbouring seaside towns as our guide gave us insight into the history of the area. Lipica is interesting if you enjoy horses (which I do) but I still think Piran and the associated commentary was the highlight.

Great tour! Ended up just being the two in our party as no one else had booked. Fantastic day with “Basil”, with plenty of time in Lipica and Piran, plus some wonderful stops for local food and drink. It felt more like hanging out with a friend than a tour. The horses and city are beautiful and it was a great way to get a taste of a lovely area. I’d love to go back and stay longer.

The culinary tour surprised me positively in that I didn't expect particularly good wines in Slovenia. As for the food, I would have expected traditional (heartier) dishes, but these were traditional. Starting with cheese and ham, through beet soup to Slovenian sausage. I would do it again!

Israel was very personable and passed on his joy for the city in a good way. We benefited so much and already knew what we wanted to take a closer look at. We recommend!!

Fantastic experience! Our guide was so lovely and the food/drink was great! Would definitely recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
