Top 5 attractions to see on a Dresden walking tour

Whether led by an expert or on your own self guided walking tour armed only with a tourist map, here are five delightful Dresden highlights to build any sightseeing checklist around!

Planning Your Visit

  • What about the New Town?

All of the sights mentioned above feature prominently in Dresden Altstadt, or Old Town. The hipper Neustadt is better suited to seeking out cool cafés, bars, restaurants, and boutiques, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few landmarks suitable for walking tours. Our tips? Check out the Still Waters Fountain at Albertplatz and the Japanese Palace.

  • How do the free tours work?

Visiting Dresden on a shoestring budget? Free walking tours are a great way to see the city for cheap. But remember, your guide does this for a living! Don't forget to bring some cash in order to pay what you think the tour was worth at the end.

The tour started with the visit at the opera house, which already set high expectations for the rest of the tour . Make sure you’re on time. We were 3minutes later and the tour started without us, with no way for us to get into the opera house. However, an employee came outside to check for any late comers, which was helpful. Overall, the tour lasts 2.5 hours. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and standing. As for the guide, he was very knowledgeable and engaging. Would highly recommend this tour!

Really enjoyed the 2 hour tour. Jana was very knowledgeable about the city and presented the information in a way that is easy to understand and also enjoyable. I think this tour is a must for anyone who really wants to know what is behind the beauty of the city. 100 percent recommend!

Excellent guide who was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Communication with the local partner about the tour was easy. Duration was perfect.

very insightful. we probably spent a bit too much time in the opera house, and not enough time in the old city.

Very informative and extremely interesting. What happened to the British car industry?!
